West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has submitted his resignation after serving three and a half years in the post, PTI reported citing a Lok Bhavan official. Bose was in New Delhi at the time of stepping down.
Speaking to the news agency, Bose confirmed his exit, saying he has “spent enough time at the Governor’s office.”
The development comes just weeks before West Bengal is set to go to the polls, where the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is eyeing a fourth consecutive term in power and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is mounting a campaign to unseat Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Banerjee, who shared a well-documented confrontational relationship with Bose throughout his tenure, responded swiftly to the news and appeared to already have clarity on his successor.
“I have learnt from Union Home Minister Amit Shah that RN Ravi will replace CV Ananda Bose as Bengal governor,” she said.
