Barabanki : At least two people were killed, and five others sustained serious injuries after a massive explosion at a firecracker factory in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district on Thursday. Officials suspect that fire safety standards were not taken care of which may have led to the incident. Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing the loud noise and helped rescue the injured before ambulances and police teams arrived.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Anurag Singh confirmed the casualties. Two deaths have been confirmed in the accident. Preliminary investigation points to negligence in the factory’s operations, he said. The official added that the factory owner, identified as Khalid, held a valid licence for firecracker manufacturing until March this year. Both Khalid and his brother were among those seriously injured in the blast.
Officials from the district administration have also reached the site. They are assessing whether the factory had implemented adequate safety measures as required. Residents of Sarai Barai village, where the accident took place, described scenes of chaos following the explosion, with flames and smoke rising from the building. The district administration has assured strict action against those found guilty of negligence.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene with debris, shattered windows, and a strong odour of chemicals. Families of the injured have appealed for rapid treatment and clear information about missing colleagues or loved ones.
The Logical Indian advocates for safety, accountability, and community resilience in the wake of tragedies like this. The organisation calls for transparent investigations, swift remediation of hazards, and stronger regulatory oversight to ensure workers’ rights, safe storage of volatile materials, and injury-preventive practices across all firecracker facilities. It also emphasises the importance of dialogue between authorities, industry stakeholders, and communities to reduce risk while protecting livelihoods.
