Aravalli Hills : Union Minister Bhupender Yadav Says Misinformation Spread, Ecology Not Ignored

New Delhi : Union Minister Bhupender Yadav on Tuesday said misinformation was being spread about the Supreme Court’s decision on the Aravalli range, asserting that the government has consistently promoted the protection of the country’s oldest mountain range. Yadav said the Supreme Court had clearly held that the Aravalli range in Delhi, Gujarat and Rajasthan must be conserved through scientific assessment. He added that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the government has always encouraged a green Aravalli.

The minister said this was the first time the government’s green movement had received such recognition. He clarified that the court has constituted a technical committee only for the restricted purpose of examining mining-related issues. Explaining the controversy over the “100-metre” criterion, Yadav said it refers to measurement from the top to the bottom of a hill. He further stressed that no mining is permitted in the NCR region.

He added that the Aravalli range is home to 20 wildlife sanctuaries and four tiger reserves, underlining its ecological importance. Bhupender Yadav said the Supreme Court decision has addressed and dispelled false allegations and misinformation surrounding the issue. He also pointed out that the court has recommended a management plan for scientific management of the Aravallis, endorsing the government’s studies and conservation efforts.

The Forest Survey of India (FSI) flagged that mining activities across 10,000 hills in the Aravalli range are causing its destruction and must be stopped. The Central Empowered Committee (CEC) asked that the matter be halted through the Supreme Court.
