New Delhi : An ordinary, damp and musty hostel room at the Al-Falah University campus in Haryana has emerged as the nerve centre where the radicalised group of doctors were plotting a series of terror attacks in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Investigations have revealed that room number 13 in building 17 — the boys’ hostel — served as the secret meeting point for the “white collar” terror module, several of whom have now been arrested.
The Al-Falah University and Hospital in Faridabad has been thrust into the spotlight after it emerged that Dr Umar Nabi, who carried out the blast near the iconic Red Fort in Delhi on Monday, killing 13 people, was employed there. A day earlier, 2,900 kilograms of IED-making material were seized from the rented premises of Dr Muzammil Shakeel, who also worked at Al-Falah University. Dr Shaheen Shahid, who is believed to have been tasked with setting up the women’s wing of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed in India, was also an employee of the university.
In fact, the explosions were being planned around the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary on December 6, the interrogation of the arrested accused has revealed. Investigators believe the group discussed how to procure and clandestinely bring chemicals from the university’s laboratory to the hostel room.
Chemical residues were also found in room number 13. It is suspected that the explosives were being prepared by mixing these chemicals with ammonium nitrate and small quantities of metallic oxides. Sources further said that Dr Umar and Dr Shaheen allegedly helped move the chemicals from the university laboratory to locations in Dhauj and Taga villages of Faridabad.
