Meta Launches Paid Plans For Instagram, Facebook And WhatsApp: What Users Need To Know

As reported by Times of India, Meta’s new paid offerings are aimed at users who want additional features and a more personalised experience across its platforms. The announcement was made by Meta’s Head of Product, Naomi Gleit, through a video shared on Instagram. The company said the move is part of its broader effort to diversify revenue streams beyond digital advertising.

Premium Features Across Apps

According to reports by Economic Times, TechCrunch and The Verge, the new subscription services will unlock several premium tools and exclusive features for users.

Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus are expected to include enhanced story options, profile customisation features and advanced engagement tools. WhatsApp Plus, meanwhile, may offer additional chat customisation, premium stickers, more pinned chats and exclusive interface options.

Reports also suggest that Meta plans to continue adding more features over time as part of the subscription ecosystem.

Subscription Prices Revealed

India Today reported that Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus have been priced at $3.99 per month, while WhatsApp Plus will cost users $2.99 monthly.

Meta is also testing new AI-focused subscription plans under the “Meta One” branding. These plans may include advanced AI tools, expanded image and video generation capabilities and higher usage limits for Meta AI users.

Why Meta Is Making This Shift

According to AFP and Economic Times, Meta’s decision comes at a time when the company is investing heavily in artificial intelligence infrastructure and data centres.

The company has reportedly projected capital expenditure between $125 billion and $145 billion this year, largely focused on AI expansion. Industry observers believe the new paid services could help Meta reduce its dependence on advertising revenue while opening up additional monetisation opportunities.

More Plans For Businesses And Creators

Reports further stated that Meta is preparing additional subscription tiers targeted at businesses and content creators in select countries. These plans are expected to provide advanced analytics, improved visibility, audience insights and content management tools.

The company may eventually combine all premium offerings under a broader “Meta One” subscription ecosystem.

Free Versions To Continue

Despite the rollout of paid plans, Meta has clarified that the free versions of Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp will continue to remain available for users globally. The subscriptions are designed as optional upgrades offering extra features and premium experiences.
