Galgotias University Faces Backlash As Professor’s LinkedIn Photo Goes Viral Amid Robotic Dog Controversy

Professor Neha Singh’s LinkedIn photo grabs online attention amidst scrutiny over robotic dog claims at AI summit.

New Delhi : A photo of Neha Singh declaring “Open To Work” on her LinkedIn profile has gained widespread attention online following a controversy at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi involving Galgotias University.

The uproar began when Singh, a communications professor at the Greater Noida-based institution, was recorded in a video presenting a four-legged robot called Orion to a journalist during the summit. She described the machine as being developed by the university’s Centre of Excellence, a claim that drew intense scrutiny after social media users identified the device as a Unitree Go2, a commercially available robotic dog made by China’s Unitree Robotics.

As the clip spread rapidly online, summit organisers reportedly cut power to the Galgotias stall and asked its representatives to vacate the space, a development that added to the embarrassment. In response, the university issued an official statement saying Singh was “ill-informed” and not authorised to talk to the press. It emphasised that she lacked awareness of the robot’s actual origin and that there was no institutional intention to mislead. Galgotias also said it had complied with requests to leave the exhibition area.

Singh later addressed reporters, acknowledging that unclear communication contributed to the misunderstanding. She insisted that the institution had never claimed to have built the robotic dog, but had shown it to students to inspire innovation. Singh said the controversy stemmed from a failure to convey her message effectively amid a hectic setting.

The public response to the episode, including the viral attention on Singh’s professional profile picture reflects wider debate about accuracy and representation at high-profile events showcasing technological advances.
