Apple Set to Unveil First Touchscreen MacBook Pro on October 28

Apple is preparing to introduce a major change to its MacBook lineup, with reports suggesting that the company will unveil its first touchscreen MacBook Pro on October 28. The announcement is expected at an event called “Pro and Tell” in Los Angeles, marking another step in Apple’s plans to expand its computer and artificial intelligence offerings.

The touchscreen MacBook Pro would mark a major shift for Apple, which has traditionally relied on a keyboard and trackpad for its Mac computers. If launched as expected, the new device will allow users to interact directly with the screen while continuing to use the keyboard and trackpad.

According to reports cited by Bloomberg, the upcoming MacBook Pro models could feature OLED displays, which offer richer colours, deeper blacks and improved contrast compared with conventional LCD screens. The new laptops are also expected to receive design changes.

The October 28 event could also include other product announcements. These are expected to include an entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip, an updated iMac and a refreshed iPad mini with an OLED display.

What it could mean for Indian buyers

For Indian consumers, the launch could be important, especially for professionals, students and creators who use laptops for demanding tasks. Video editors, graphic designers, photographers and music producers may benefit from a high-quality display and the flexibility of touchscreen controls.

However, the new MacBook Pro may not be affordable for every buyer. Apple’s premium laptops are generally positioned in the higher price segment in India, where their cost can also be affected by import expenses and currency movements. The touchscreen and OLED display could push the price higher than that of current models, though the final Indian price has not been announced.

The launch may also influence the wider laptop market. Touchscreens are already common in many Windows laptops, including models aimed at students and business users. Apple’s entry into this segment could increase competition and encourage more consumers to compare display quality, performance, battery life and price before buying a laptop.

For buyers in India, the key question will be whether touchscreen support offers enough practical value to justify a possible price increase. Users who mainly type, browse the internet or attend online classes may not need the feature, while creative professionals could find it more useful.

Apple has not yet confirmed the touchscreen MacBook Pro’s price, India availability or sale date. More details are expected when the company announces its products on October 28. Until then, Indian buyers should treat the reported specifications and launch plans as expectations rather than confirmed product details.
