Virat Kohli Scripts The 7,000th International Century — Here’s How The Landmark Was Reached

Ranchi: On Sunday, Virat Kohli (135 runs off 120 balls, seven sixes and eleven fours) produced a special knock against South Africa in the opening ODI of the series, achieving multiple rare milestones — the most remarkable being his connection with the 7,000th international century in cricket history.

Kohli, who holds the record for the highest number of ODI centuries (52), also won his 44th ODI Player of the Match award on Sunday. He broke the record of five ODI centuries vs South Africa jointly held by Sachin Tendulkar and David Warner, registering his sixth century against the Proteas.

Batting alongside Rohit Sharma, Kohli added their 20th ODI partnership of 100-plus, surpassing the Kumar Sangakkara–Tillakaratne Dilshan pair. This was also their eighth ODI century stand on home soil—and their first in the last five years.

The duo also set a major Indian milestone by appearing together in their 392nd international match, overtaking the Sachin Tendulkar–Rahul Dravid record of 391.

Kohli’s fifty-second ODI century in Ranchi became historically significant because it marked the 7,000th international century ever scored in men’s cricket. Of these 7,000 centuries, Kohli alone accounts for 83 — 52 in ODIs, 30 in Tests, and one in T20Is.
