PT Usha’s Husband V Srinivasan Dies at 67; PM Modi Offers Condolences

Kozhikode : V Srinivasan, husband of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President and Rajya Sabha MP PT Usha, died at the age of 67 in the early hours of Friday at their home in Kozhikode district, Kerala, family sources confirmed. Srinivasan suddenly collapsed at his residence and, despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, doctors were unable to revive him. 

Srinivasan had been a steadfast presence throughout Usha’s illustrious career in athletics and later in public life. A former central government employee, he stood by her during several key moments, providing support as she transitioned from one of India’s most celebrated athletes to a leading sports administrator and parliamentarian.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally spoke with PT Usha to express his sorrow and extend condolences to her and the family. Government officials also conveyed sympathy over Srinivasan’s passing, underscoring the respect he garnered across sports and political circles. Also Union minister of parliamentary affairs Kiren Rijiju expressed grief over sad demise.

The couple married in 1991 and share a son, Ujjwal. Srinivasan was widely regarded as a pillar of strength behind Usha’s achievements, including her contributions to Indian athletics and her leadership role in the IOA. As PT Usha returns to Kerala following parliamentary commitments, tributes are expected to continue pouring in from across the nation. The family has yet to announce details regarding the funeral arrangements.
