Vadodara: Since the launch of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in 2023, not a single century had been scored in the tournament’s history spanning 1,059 days. That long wait finally ended on Monday when defending champions Mumbai Indians’ British all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt achieved the milestone with an unbeaten 100 off 57 balls (one six and seventeen fours). She brought up her historic century against 2024 champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Vadodara match.
Mumbai win by 15 runs
Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, Mumbai Indians posted 199 for 4 in 20 overs. In reply, RCB, captained by Smriti Mandhana, managed 184 for 9 in 20 overs, handing Mumbai a 15-run victory.
Richa Ghosh’s effort goes in vain
RCB wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh played a fighting knock of 90 runs off 50 balls (six sixes and ten fours), but her effort went in vain. Captain Smriti Mandhana herself could score only six runs. For Mumbai, Hayley Matthews picked up three wickets, while Shabnim Ismail and Amelia Kerr claimed two wickets each.

Two scores of 99 earlier
In the WPL’s short four-year history, individual scores of 99 had been recorded twice earlier — Georgia Voll of UP Warriorz (99*), and Sophie Devine of RCB (99). Overall, there had been ten individual scores in the 90–99 range, but no player had managed to reach a century until now.
Who holds which cap?
In the current WPL season, Nat Sciver-Brunt is the leading run-scorer with 319 runs and holds the Orange Cap. Delhi bowler Nandini Sharma, with 13 wickets, tops the bowling charts and holds the Purple Cap.
