New Delhi: After India’s women cricketers achieved their historic maiden World Cup triumph on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the team at his residence on Wednesday for a memorable interaction followed by a dinner — where he set an inspiring example of humility.
During the dinner, Modi personally served injured opening batter Pratika Rawal her favorite dish, a gesture that deeply moved everyone present.
Pratika had been one of India’s key performers in the tournament, scoring 308 runs that played a major role in taking the team to the semi-finals. However, she suffered a serious leg injury after slipping on the damp outfield during the final league match against Bangladesh at the DY Patil Stadium, forcing her to miss both the semi-final and the final. Shafali Verma replaced her in the playing XI.

When Pratika arrived for the meeting with the Prime Minister in a wheelchair, Modi noticed during the dinner that she couldn’t move to the counter to pick her food. He then asked her what her favorite dish was — and personally brought it to her table. Everyone around was touched by this thoughtful and humble act from the Prime Minister.
