PCB Mulls ICC Complaint Against India’s Suryakumar Yadav Over Post-Match Conduct: Report

DUBAI – The aftermath of the high-voltage Asia Cup 2025 clash between India and Pakistan continues to generate controversy, with a new report indicating the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is weighing a formal complaint against Indian T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav.
The potential complaint stems from two incidents following India’s seven-wicket victory on September 14. According to a report by NDTV, the PCB is considering lodging a protest with the International Cricket Council (ICC) over Suryakumar Yadav’s post-match actions. The Indian skipper dedicated the win to the “armed forces who took part in Operation Sindoor” and expressed support for families of the April Pahalgam terror attack. The PCB reportedly views these remarks as an inappropriate political statement made on a sporting platform.
Furthermore, the report states that after hitting the winning runs, Suryakumar and batter Shivam Dube walked directly off the field to the dressing room, bypassing the customary post-match handshake with the waiting Pakistani players. The entire Indian team followed suit.
This development follows a separate dispute between the PCB and ICC match referee Andy Pycroft. The PCB had attempted to have Pycroft removed from the tournament, alleging he approached Pakistani captain Salman Ali Agha at the toss and advised him against shaking hands with the Indian skipper. The PCB claimed this action showed bias and violated the spirit of the game.
The ICC rejected the PCB’s initial request to remove Pycroft. The board then sent a second letter and even threatened to pull its team out of the tournament if their demand was not met. This led to a team meeting that delayed Pakistan’s departure for a crucial group-stage match against the UAE. The PCB ultimately relented, and the match, officiated by Pycroft, proceeded.
The PCB later issued a statement claiming that Pycroft had apologized to Captain Agha and the team manager over the handshake incident. The focus has now shifted to Suryakumar Yadav as the two teams prepare for a potential second encounter in the Super Four stage on Sunday, September 21. The ICC has reportedly given the PCB until Sunday to formally file any complaint.
