Mbappé begins second season with a penalty strike to hand Real Madrid victory

Madrid: France’s World Cup runner-up star Kylian Mbappé kicked off his second season in the Spanish league in style, converting a penalty to secure Real Madrid a narrow 1-0 win over Osasuna on Tuesday.

The decisive moment came in the 51st minute, when Mbappé calmly netted from the spot, delivering Los Blancos the only goal of the match. The strike also gave new head coach Xabi Alonso a perfect start to his managerial tenure at the club, after replacing Carlo Ancelotti, who has moved on to coach Brazil.

Alonso, a former Real Madrid midfielder, celebrated a winning debut on the touchline. The game also saw 18-year-old Mastentuno come close to scoring, but his shot was brilliantly stopped by the Osasuna goalkeeper.

The fixture had been postponed from last weekend due to the heavy schedule of Real Madrid players returning from international and club duties, leaving them fatigued.

Mbappé shines again, and Alonso begins his Madrid chapter with three points.
