Moeen Ali Steps Up as KKR Restrict Rajasthan Royals in IPL Thriller

Moeen Ali, filling in for the unwell Sunil Narine, played a key role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowling attack during their IPL match against Rajasthan Royals, helping limit RR to 151 for nine. Partnering with Varun Chakaravarthy, Moeen kept things tight, finishing with 2/23 in four overs, matching his teammate’s figures. “I’m used to bowling with someone better than me,” Moeen said post-match, praising Chakaravarthy’s brilliance and noting his role was to build pressure for wickets.

The spin duo turned the game after RR’s strong start of 54 in the Power Play. Moeen dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal early and later bowled Nitish Rana with a sharp-turning off-break, a delivery he called a “beauty.” “I don’t have the skill of others, but I contain and think like a batter to stay ahead,” he said, crediting his success to smart bowling on a tricky pitch.

With Narine out, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane relied on Moeen, who rose to the challenge in T20’s unforgiving format. He reflected, “India’s great for batting, but wickets like this keep scores down. Batters are fearless now, so bowlers must evolve.” His efforts ensured KKR stayed competitive in a low-scoring affair.
