The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to resume on Saturday, May 17, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru taking on Kolkata Knight Riders, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Monday, May 12. The tournament will feature 17 remaining matches across six cities, culminating in the final on June 3. Details regarding the venues for the playoff matches will be announced at a later date.
According to a BCCI statement, the decision to proceed with the tournament followed “extensive consultations with government and security agencies, and with all the key stakeholders.”
The updated fixture list includes just two doubleheaders, both scheduled for Sundays. Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator will be played on May 29 and May 30, respectively, with Qualifier 2 slated for June 1.

Initially, reports suggested that the remainder of the season might be hosted exclusively in southern cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. However, the BCCI has opted to stage games in Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad, in addition to Bengaluru. As a result, franchises such as Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings will not be playing their remaining home matches at their original venues.
Delhi will host Chennai Super Kings’ final match against Rajasthan Royals on May 20 and Sunrisers Hyderabad’s clash with Kolkata Knight Riders on May 25. Both CSK and SRH are already out of playoff contention.
The previously abandoned fixture between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals from May 8 will be replayed in Jaipur on May 24. Punjab Kings will also play their other remaining matches in Jaipur, with Mohali excluded from the updated list of host cities. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians, who are still in the playoff race, will get to play their final home match at the Wankhede Stadium against Delhi Capitals on May 21.
The league had been put on hold for a week following the cancellation of a game in Dharamsala due to escalating border tensions between India and Pakistan. With several international players having already departed India, it remains uncertain how many will return, especially given upcoming global commitments. Notably, Australian and South African Test players may be affected, with the ICC World Test Championship Final set to begin on June 11, just days after the IPL concludes.
