IPL 2025: KKR vs LSG Match at Eden Gardens Maybe Postponed Due to Security Concerns

The much-anticipated IPL clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants, slated for April 6 at Eden Gardens, might be rescheduled after local police withheld security clearance amid Ram Navami celebrations. The decision comes in the wake of heightened security requirements, as over 20,000 processions have been announced across West Bengal, raising significant safety concerns.

Cricket Association of Bengal president Snehasish Ganguly explained that the authorities have clearly stated they cannot provide adequate security for a 65,000-strong crowd without proper police protection. This issue is reminiscent of last year when an IPL match scheduled on Ram Navami had to be moved. Ganguly noted that the Board of Control for Cricket in India has been informed of the situation, and final decisions will be made soon.

The fixture, expected to attract a large local audience—especially given the strong backing for both teams and LSG’s association with RPSG Group chairman Sanjiv Goenka—faces uncertainty over its timing. Meanwhile, the 2025 IPL season is set to kick off at Eden Gardens on March 22, with defending champions KKR taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The opening ceremony is expected to last about 35 minutes and will feature performances by singer Shreya Ghoshal and actress Disha Patani, along with appearances by ICC chairman Jay Shah and other dignitaries, marking a grand return to Eden Gardens after a long hiatus.

Ticket demand remains high as organizers work through these challenges to ensure a safe and memorable start to the season.
