Bengaluru: On the second day of the four-day Duleep Trophy quarter-final (Friday), North Zone’s 28-year-old pacer Auqib Nabi produced a sensational spell. At one stage in East Zone’s innings, Nabi took four wickets in four balls. This came in his second spell, where he grabbed five wickets for just five runs, including the rare four-in-four feat. With a hat-trick as part of it, Nabi finished with 5 wickets for 28 runs in 10.1 overs.
Replying to North Zone’s 405 runs, East Zone were bowled out for 230, largely due to Nabi’s magical performance. Other successful bowlers for North Zone included Asia Cup pick Harshit Rana (2 wickets) and Arshdeep Singh (1 wicket).
Nabi, who hails from Jammu & Kashmir, claimed his hat-trick by first dismissing Virat Singh, followed by Manishi and Mukhtar Hussain on consecutive deliveries. His over ended there, but on the very first ball of his next over, he bowled out Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal to complete four wickets in four balls. Later, he dismissed Mohammed Shami for his fifth wicket.
Meanwhile, in the second quarter-final, Central Zone declared at 532/4 against North East Zone. In reply, North East were struggling at 168/7. Central’s pacer Aditya Shailesh Thakare made an impact by taking three wickets in quick succession within three overs.
