New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL), launched in 2008 with the noble goal of discovering talented cricketers across India, has indeed achieved that mission over its 17-year history — producing countless stars and millionaires. However, when a player loses his moral compass amid fame and fortune, it becomes a matter of shame for Indian cricket.
While former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player Yash Dayal already faces legal action for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl under the pretext of marriage, another IPL player has now been accused of a similar crime.
Vipraj Nigam, who played several impactful innings for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025 and is currently representing India A under Tilak Varma’s captaincy in the unofficial ODI series against South Africa A, has been accused of rape by a local woman cricketer from Andhra Pradesh. The woman claims Vipraj sexually assaulted her after promising to marry her.
According to the woman, who also represents another state team, she first met Vipraj online earlier this year. Their friendship soon turned into a romantic relationship, after which Vipraj allegedly called her to a hotel room, promised marriage, and raped her. She further alleges that when she later questioned him about marriage, Vipraj physically assaulted her.
The complaint against Vipraj has been filed at a Noida police station. However, Vipraj has refuted all allegations in his First Information Report (FIR), stating that the woman’s claims are completely false, and that she is blackmailing and threatening him.
The spin all-rounder also claimed that the woman had been making unreasonable demands, and after he refused to comply, she threatened to leak videos online.
