Zinedine Zidane To Become France Head Coach This Summer: Report

In a major development for international football, French legendary figure Zinedine Zidane has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to become the next head coach of the France national team. According to a report by Al Jazeera, citing sources including ESPN, the 53-year-old is prepared to take over the managerial reins following the conclusion of this summer’s FIFA World Cup in North America.

Zidane is expected to replace his former international teammate Didier Deschamps, who has led Les Bleus since 2012. The transition marks the end of an era for Deschamps, whose tenure included a World Cup title in 2018 and a runner-up finish in 2022. News agencies indicate that the French Football Federation (FFF) has long viewed Zidane as the natural successor to lead the next generation of French talent.

Since resigning from his second stint at Real Madrid in 2021, Zidane has remained away from the dugout despite being linked to several high-profile club roles. During his time in Spain, he achieved unprecedented success, guiding the “Merengues” to three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles.

As a player, Zidane’s legacy is synonymous with French glory. He earned 108 caps and famously scored twice in the 1998 World Cup final. While his playing career ended with a red card in the 2006 final, his stature in France remains unmatched. The FFF has yet to release an official statement, but reports suggest the appointment will be finalized once the current World Cup cycle concludes in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
