Yashasvi Jaiswal Sets New Record, Breaks Shikhar Dhawan’s Landmark

Chennai: Indian cricket has produced a long list of batting greats over the last 56 years of ODI cricket, but a unique record that had survived throughout that period was finally broken by Yashasvi Jaiswal during the third ODI against Afghanistan on Saturday. India completed a 3-0 clean sweep of the series, while the 24-year-old opener etched his name into the record books.

Legends such as Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, Vinod Kambli, Mohammad Azharuddin, Suresh Raina, and Ajay Jadeja could not achieve what Jaiswal has now accomplished.

Before Saturday, no Indian batter had scored two ODI centuries within the first six matches of his career. The previous benchmark belonged to Shikhar Dhawan, who had reached the milestone in his first seven ODIs. Jaiswal, however, brought up his second ODI hundred in just his sixth match, becoming the fastest Indian batter to score two ODI centuries.

Jaiswal’s ODI journey began in February 2025. Interestingly, despite playing only six ODIs, he has yet to score a half-century. Instead, he already has two centuries to his name.

His maiden ODI hundred came against South Africa in Visakhapatnam in December 2025, when he remained unbeaten on 116 off 169 balls. He followed it up with another unbeaten century against Afghanistan in Chennai on Saturday, scoring 110 not out off 127 balls to create a new Indian record.

The achievement highlights Jaiswal’s remarkable start to international one-day cricket and underlines his growing importance in India’s batting line-up. With two centuries in his first six ODIs, the left-hander has set a standard unmatched by any Indian batter before him.
