Indian cricket star Virat Kohli is making strong progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury and is on course to rejoin the national team for the upcoming three-match One-Day International series against England.
The 37-year-old sustained the injury during the Indian Premier League final on May 31. According to available updates, his rehabilitation is advancing better than anticipated, with the injury healing at a promising rate. He is expected to undergo a fitness assessment and receive clearance at the Board’s centre of excellence in the near future. If the recovery continues smoothly, Kohli should be available for selection in the ODI series, which begins on July 14.
The three ODIs are scheduled for Birmingham on July 14, Cardiff on July 16, and Lord’s on July 19. These matches will follow a preceding five-match T20I series. A selection committee meeting to finalise India’s squad for the England tour is anticipated within the next three to four days.
Injuries are uncommon for Kohli, making this setback notable. However, his rapid improvement underscores his renowned dedication to fitness and physical conditioning. He continues to play a central role in India’s preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa. Having retired from T20Is and Tests, Kohli has maintained sharp form in the 50-over format.

His recent performances have been exceptional. In his last seven ODIs, Kohli scored 616 runs at an outstanding average of 123.20, including three centuries. This was followed by a productive IPL campaign where he amassed 675 runs, positioning him as a strong contender for the season’s top scorer award before another player claimed it.
Kohli also boasts an impressive record in England, where he has accumulated 1,349 runs across 33 ODIs, featuring 12 half-centuries and one century. His contributions were pivotal during the 2019 World Cup on English soil, where he helped India reach the semi-finals with 443 runs.
Earlier, when Kohli was sidelined for the Afghanistan ODIs and replaced by Yashasvi Jaiswal, the chairman of selectors expressed confidence in his potential availability for the England series, noting that timelines looked favourable despite the early stage of recovery.
Kohli’s return would significantly bolster India’s middle order as they prepare for key international assignments. His combination of experience, technical skill, and proven success in English conditions makes him a vital asset for the team.
