T20 World Cup 2026: Rain Threat Looms Over India vs Pakistan Clash In Colombo Amid 85% Showers Forecast

The highly anticipated T20 World Cup 2026 encounter between India and Pakistan faces a fresh challenge, with adverse weather conditions threatening to disrupt the marquee fixture. According to the Meteorology Department of Sri Lanka, Colombo is likely to witness light to heavy showers on Sunday (Feb 15), casting uncertainty over the much-awaited contest. This development adds another layer of complication to a match that has already been overshadowed by off-field controversies, including Pakistan’s initial boycott announcement before their government eventually cleared the team to participate.

Weather forecast raises concerns

Weather predictions for Sunday indicate an 85 percent probability of rainfall in Colombo, with evening temperatures expected to hover around 23 degrees Celsius. Additionally, there is approximately 24 percent chance of thunderstorms in the city coinciding with the India-Pakistan fixture. Forecasters anticipate around 2.4mm of precipitation in Colombo on Sunday, a prospect that will concern cricket enthusiasts from both nations. However, a glimmer of hope remains as meteorological projections suggest rain likelihood may decrease during evening hours as conditions improve.

The India versus Pakistan match, invariably a major attraction at any cricket World Cup, is scheduled for Sunday (Feb 15) at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The fixture’s status was previously uncertain following Pakistan’s announced boycott in solidarity with Bangladesh, who were subsequently replaced by Scotland in the tournament. The ICC successfully resolved the impasse and restored the fixture after conducting multiple rounds of negotiations in Lahore.

India’s dominant record

As the match approaches, India will aim to strengthen their impressive T20 World Cup record against their traditional rivals, having suffered defeat just once. Sunday’s meeting will mark the ninth T20 World Cup clash between the two sides, with India securing victory in seven of the eight previous encounters and Pakistan winning one. Pakistan’s sole triumph over India came in October 2021 and remains their only victory against the Men in Blue in any men’s senior World Cup fixture.
