In a monumental moment for the cricket, the Knight Riders Group has etched its name into cricket history by being the first global cricket brand to establish an international cricket stadium, with the Knight Riders Cricket Ground, LA, officially hosting its first Major League Cricket fixture. As the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) took the field versus Washington Freedom, the occasion represents considerably more than the opening of a new venue. Though, the Washington Freedom won by 6 wickets against the LAKR.
It signifies the arrival of a permanent, world-class cricketing home in the US and reinforces the Knight Riders Group’s objective of accelerating the growth of cricket through long-term investment in world-class infrastructure.
Purpose-built to international standards, the Knight Riders Cricket Ground, LA, has been constructed to give an excellent cricketing experience for players and fans alike. The venue boasts eight wickets on the main square, ICC-standard playing dimensions and six floodlight towers towering 120 feet tall, while more than 32,000 metric tonnes of soil were transported during construction to produce a world-class playing arena.
The new location will hold cricket matches at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, which is a significant step for the development of the sport in the nation.
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and the co-owner of the Knight Riders Group said, “Today, what was once only a dream has come true. For all of us, bringing cricket the second most popular sport in the world to Los Angeles is a historic occasion. We are building much more than just a cricket stadium because to this long-term collaboration between Fairplex and Knight Riders. We are constructing an area that honors community, unity, vitality, and amusement. It is a location designed not only for athletics but also for entertainment, families, and enduring memories. We hope that this will serve as a home for cricket in Los Angeles and serve as an inspiration to future generations of players and fans. This is for Los Angeles, for cricket lovers across the globe, and for the Knight Riders family. Believe in Purple and Gold,” he added.
