Rishabh Pant’s three-year hunt for land in Uttarakhand just got a boost from the top. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami says his government will help however the rules allow, after Pant made a public appeal on X.
Pant, currently in Sri Lanka for India’s two-Test series, tagged Dhami in a post early Saturday. He said he’d spent three years trying to find suitable land to shift his base from Delhi to Uttarakhand and build his first home there. No luck so far.
“I have been trying to buy land to shift my base from Delhi to Uttarakhand and I couldn’t find anything facilitating and big to live here. I love my Uttarakhand,” he wrote.

Then came the direct ask. “My humble request to you is please help me in land acquisition… I wanna move back to my native place to help and build around Uttarakhand and I want to shift back to my Pahadi people. Please look into this matter, it’s been 3 years,” Pant wrote.
Dhami’s response read like a warm welcome. “Dear Rishabh, you are the pride of Uttarakhand. With your splendid performance and achievements, you have illuminated the name of Devbhoomi in the country and the world,” he wrote — adding that Pant’s wish to return and contribute was “highly commendable.”
He also said the wheels are already turning. “Regarding the matter you have raised, instructions are being issued to the concerned officials. They will soon contact you and ensure all possible cooperation in accordance with the rules,” Dhami said.
Pant was careful about one thing: he isn’t asking for free land. He wants to pay for it, at whatever rate the government charges. “A gift would be lovely for representing our state at the highest level internationally, but if you allow me I wanna buy it from Government and on their rates,” he wrote.
Born in Roorkee, in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar district, Pant started out playing cricket there before the move to Delhi, where he still turns out in domestic matches. The Uttarakhand ties never really faded, though.

He also happens to be Uttarakhand’s highest individual taxpayer for 2025-26 Rs 23.84 crore paid, according to recent reports, drawn from his BCCI contract, match fees, IPL earnings and endorsements. Lucknow Super Giants picked him up for Rs 27 crore this season.
For now, officials have been told to get in touch. Whether that turns three years of searching into an actual plot of land is the part still to play out.
