India cricketer Rinku Singh has left the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup camp to be with his family after his father’s health condition worsened significantly, sources confirmed. Rinku’s father is battling stage-4 liver cancer and is currently on ventilator support, according to available information.
The left-handed batter stepped away from the team environment during this critical family situation. While Rinku remains part of India’s squad for the tournament, there is no clarity yet on whether he will return to rejoin the side. The team management is closely monitoring the situation, and an official update is still awaited.
Rinku’s absence was visible during Tuesday’s practice session, where teammates including Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Arshdeep Singh, Tilak Varma, Abhishek Sharma, and Sanju Samson were seen on the field.
The 26-year-old has established himself as a key finisher in India’s white-ball setup in recent years, and any prolonged absence could affect the team’s combination heading into the latter stages of the tournament.
On the field, Rinku has had a mixed campaign with the bat so far, frequently coming in with very few deliveries remaining. He has scored just 24 runs across five innings, remaining unbeaten twice, with a best of 11. In 10 T20 Internationals this year, the southpaw has accumulated 115 runs in eight innings at an average of 28.75, a strike rate of 132.18, and a top score of 44.
India face a must-win encounter against Zimbabwe in Chennai on Thursday. Following a heavy 76-run defeat to South Africa in their Super Eight phase opener, the Men in Blue must win their remaining matches to keep their title defence alive and will also need South Africa to finish the Super Eight stage unbeaten for the equation to work in their favour.
The cricketing fraternity is expected to stand behind Rinku as he navigates this deeply personal and difficult period off the field.
