FIFA World Cup 2026 Semi-Final Preview: Messi’s Argentina Face Kane’s England for Final Spot

Argentina and England meet in the second semi-final of the FIFA World Cup 2026, with kickoff set for 12:30 am IST at Atlanta Stadium.

Defending champions Argentina, led by Lionel Messi and coached by Lionel Scaloni, are aiming to retain the World Cup title. England, under Thomas Tuchel, are chasing their first World Cup final appearance since winning the tournament in 1966.

Argentina reached the last four after extra-time wins over Cape Verde and Switzerland, followed by a comeback win against Egypt. Messi, 39, has scored eight goals in the tournament, matching Kylian Mbappe, whose campaign ended after France’s 2-0 defeat to Spain.

England’s route to the semi-finals also went through extra time in both knockout matches. They beat Mexico despite being reduced to 10 men, then defeated Norway. Jude Bellingham scored twice in each of those games, and Harry Kane continues to lead the side as captain.

The winner will face Spain in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final at Miami Stadium on Monday, July 20 (IST).
