Comical Yet Chaotic Scene in PSL as Strong Winds Blow Away Covers, Groundstaff Injured

Lahore: A bizarre and somewhat comical incident unfolded during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match on Tuesday, when strong winds wreaked havoc at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore ahead of the clash between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi.

Heavy rain accompanied by powerful gusts of wind struck the venue just before the toss. The intensity of the wind caused the large and heavy pitch covers to lift off the ground. Several groundstaff members standing on the covers lost their balance and fell, while others were thrown aside due to the force and weight of the moving covers.

For safety reasons, spectators were not allowed at the venue during the PSL fixture. However, those present on the field were left stunned as chaos unfolded. Panic spread momentarily, with people scrambling amid the dramatic situation.

As the winds intensified beyond expectations, groundstaff struggled to maintain control of the covers. Some lost their grip entirely, leading to dangerous moments where workers fell or were dragged by the heavy sheets. Continuous rainfall further worsened the situation, making it difficult for staff members to assist one another.

Eventually, due to persistent rain and unsafe conditions, the match had to be called off without play.
