
Glasgow: Indian boxer Preeti Pawar has emerged as the women’s 54kg champion at the Commonwealth Games, clinching the gold medal and adding another glorious chapter to India’s campaign.

In the final, Preeti completely dominated Canada’s Scarlett Delgado, landing a series of powerful punches throughout the contest. She did not allow her opponent to win a single round and sealed a commanding 5-0 victory to capture the gold medal.

The 22-year-old World No. 3 established her supremacy right from the opening round. Although she conceded a few points during Scarlett’s counter-attacks, all the judges unanimously awarded the round to Preeti with a 10-8 score in her favour.

Preeti carried the same determination and aggressive intent into the second round, maintaining complete control before comfortably winning the remaining rounds to complete a one-sided triumph.

Earlier, Preeti had also registered a dominant 5-0 victory in the semi-final, defeating Zambia’s Catherine Mwape to book her place in the gold medal match.
