Manav Suthar Achieves in His Second Test What Sobers, Garner, Gillespie, Brett Lee, Hazlewood, Bumrah and Shami Could Never Do!

Galle: When left-arm spinner Manav Suthar, who hails from Rajasthan and has played for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL, took 10 or more wickets in a first-class match on four occasions, nobody would have expected him to achieve such a feat so early in his Test career. Several legendary bowlers could not accomplish the same feat even during their long Test careers.

Legends such as Sir Gary Sobers, Joel Garner, Jason Gillespie, Brett Lee, Josh Hazlewood, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami never managed to take 10 or more wickets in a single Test match across both innings. But 24-year-old Manav Suthar has achieved the feat in only his second Test.

In the Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, which India won on Wednesday, Suthar took four wickets for 76 runs in the first innings and six for 55 in the second innings, finishing with an outstanding match haul of 10 wickets for 131 runs.

India bowled Sri Lanka out for just 206 while defending a target of 372 in the first Test of the series on Wednesday, winning by 165 runs and taking a 1-0 lead. Although Suthar claimed 10 wickets in the match, Devdutt Padikkal was named Player of the Match after playing a major role in the victory with scores of 167 in the first innings and 44 in the second.

This was only the second Test of Suthar’s career. He has now taken 17 wickets in two Tests at an impressive bowling average of just 11.35.
