On Saturday, June 27, Amir Jangoo and Roston Chase broke the record for the highest sixth-wicket partnership in Test cricket history by adding 401 runs off 602 balls for the sixth wicket. In the first innings, West Indies captain Chase scored 194, missing his double century by just 6 runs, while Jangoo, who is just playing in his second Test match, struck 233 off 373 balls.
When England’s Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes faced South Africa at Newlands in Cape Town in January 2016, they set the previous record for the best sixth-wicket partnership in Test cricket with 399 runs.
Before Jangoo and Chase accomplished the mark in the current first Test match against Sri Lanka in North Sound, no duo had ever added 400 or more runs for the sixth wicket in the 149-year history of Test cricket.
In Test cricket, their 401-run partnership is the second-highest for any wicket between two hitters from the West Indies. Conrad Hunte and Garry Sobers, who scored 446 runs for the second wicket against Pakistan in the Kingston Test between February 26 and March 4, 1958, hold the record.
