New Delhi : A recent Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals drew attention not only for the result but also for disciplinary action taken against two prominent players, as reported by News18.
During the match, Delhi Capitals’ Nitish Rana was penalised for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. The incident occurred amid a heated exchange involving match officials after a controversial moment on the field. Rana was found guilty of using inappropriate language during the argument, which led to a fine and the addition of a demerit point to his record.
The situation escalated after a disagreement related to an on-field decision, which reportedly frustrated members of the Delhi Capitals camp. Rana’s reaction crossed acceptable behavioural standards set by the league, prompting officials to take action.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was also sanctioned, though for a different reason. He was fined due to his team maintaining a slow over rate during the match. According to IPL regulations, captains are held accountable if their side fails to complete overs within the stipulated time.
Despite these incidents, Chennai Super Kings secured a victory, marking an important moment in their campaign. However, the disciplinary measures highlighted the league’s strict stance on maintaining professionalism and adherence to rules.
The penalties imposed on both players underline the IPL’s commitment to upholding standards of conduct on and off the field. While Rana’s case involved behaviour during a tense moment, Gaikwad’s fine was procedural, reflecting the league’s consistent enforcement of playing conditions.
Such actions serve as a reminder to teams and players about the importance of discipline in high-pressure matches, where emotions often run high but regulations remain uncompromising.
