The only goal of the historic final came in the 10th minute, when India’s Lalremsiami found the back of the net. It was not a penalty-corner goal but a field goal. Neither team could score again after that.

The match was Lalremsiami’s 200th appearance for India, and she marked the milestone by scoring the goal that delivered the gold medal to the country. Salima Tete-led Indian team celebrated in spectacular fashion both after scoring and following the final whistle.

India won a total of six gold medals on Friday.
