Southampton (England): India’s T20 team, led by Shreyas Iyer, has already lost the five-match T20 series 0-3 against hosts England. However, the visitors still have an opportunity to salvage some pride by winning the final T20 in Southampton. But ahead of the match, the Indian team itself was caught in a massive traffic jam and failed to reach the stadium on time.
As a result, the toss, which was scheduled for 6:30 pm IST ahead of the 7:00 pm IST match, could not take place at the scheduled time.
Heavy traffic congestion stretched from Southampton Airport Parkway station, located about four miles from the stadium, to the main roads leading to the venue. Several people associated with the match were unable to reach the stadium on time because of the gridlock.
The Indian players themselves remained stuck in traffic for a considerable period before finally making it to the stadium after a difficult journey.
If Vaibhav Suryavanshi gets another opportunity in the playing XI today, it will be his fourth consecutive appearance. The young batter will hope to make a significant contribution and erase the memories of his disappointing scores of 14, 13 and 15 in the previous three matches.
