London: India produced a dominant display to crush arch-rivals Pakistan 7-1 in the FIH Pro League hockey tournament in England on Friday night.
Seven Different Indian Players on the Scoresheet
The most remarkable aspect of India’s victory was that seven different players found the net between the 20th and 54th minutes. Each of them showcased their attacking prowess against Pakistan. At the same time, the Indian defence and goalkeeper, under coach Craig Fulton, kept Pakistan under control for most of the contest.
Pakistan managed only one goal in reply as India completely dominated the proceedings after recovering from an early setback.
Who Scored for India?
India’s goals came through Sukhjeet Singh, captain Harmanpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Dilpreet Singh, Jugraj Singh, Abhishek, and Raj Kumar Pal.
Pakistan’s lone goal was scored by Abu Mohammad from a penalty corner.
The match began in exciting fashion, with Abu Mohammad beating Indian goalkeeper Mohit H.S. in the 13th minute to give Pakistan a 1-0 lead. However, India responded strongly, and in the 20th minute, the combination of Sukhjeet Singh and Harmanpreet Singh helped level the score at 1-1.
Pakistani Player Hospitalised After Injury
Pakistan suffered a major setback in the second quarter when Ahmad Nadeem was struck in the eye by the ball. The injury appeared serious, and he was taken off the field in a wheelchair before being admitted to hospital.
Following the incident, India stepped up the pressure and launched relentless attacks, scoring six more goals to complete an emphatic 7-1 victory.
Pakistan Still Without a Point
The win was India’s fourth of the season. After 15 matches, India now have 17 points in the standings.
Pakistan, meanwhile, have lost all 15 of their matches this season and remain without a single point.
India’s next FIH Pro League fixture will be against England on Sunday.
