India’s 600th Test On Saturday: Know The Fascinating Records Set Across The First 599 Tests

Galle: Sri Lanka will play their 330th Test match from 10:00 am on Saturday, but India’s Test tally is truly remarkable. In the 149-year history of Test cricket, India will become only the third country to play 600 Tests. So far, India have played 599 Tests. England, with 1,097 Tests, and Australia, with 883 Tests, are the two countries ahead of India in terms of Tests played.

The first-ever Test match was played between Australia and England in March 1877, with Australia winning by 45 runs. India played their first Test against England at Lord’s in June 1932, with England winning by 158 runs.

Of India’s 599 Tests, they have won 186, lost 188 and drawn 224. One Test ended in a tie. India’s most recent Test was played against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh in June 2026, where India registered a massive innings-and-300-run victory.
