Brazil moved into a 2-0 lead over India in the first half of their international friendly in Kolkata, with Estevao and Pedro finding the net. Chelsea forward Estevao opened the scoring with a powerful left-footed strike and then set up Pedro’s goal a few minutes later.
Estevao breaks the deadlock
Estevao picked up the ball in a wide position on the right and worked his way towards the edge of the box. The Chelsea forward then let fly with a powerful left-footed effort. India goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, who was well positioned, got a hand to the shot but could not stop it from ending up in the back of the net. The power behind the strike was too much, as the ball deflected off his hand and went in.
The goal gave Brazil the lead and showed Estevao’s attacking quality, as he created space before shooting at goal.
Pedro doubles the lead
Brazil doubled their advantage in the 42nd minute, with Estevao again at the heart of the move. The youngster played a lovely through ball into the box for Pedro, who had enough time to take his shot before finding the back of the net.
Pedro’s effort was also difficult for Gurpreet to keep out, as the ball hit his right glove before going into the goal. The goalkeeper will feel he could have done better with the attempt, but Brazil had by then built a comfortable advantage heading into the interval.
The second goal underlined Estevao’s influence on the first half, with the Chelsea forward contributing both a goal and an assist. Brazil’s attacking quality has given India plenty to deal with as the hosts go into the second half trailing 2-0.
