KKR Face Major Setback as Harshit Rana Ruled Out

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have suffered a significant setback ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, with young pacer Harshit Rana ruled out of the entire tournament due to injury. The IPL season is scheduled to commence on March 28.

Rana, a key member of KKR’s bowling attack, has been sidelined since sustaining a knee injury during India’s warm-up match against South Africa in Navi Mumbai prior to the T20 World Cup 2026. The injury forced him to miss India’s campaign in the global event, where he was replaced by Mohammed Siraj.

According to a report , Rana underwent surgery in Mumbai on February 9, but recovery timelines indicate he will not be fit in time for the IPL. An official associated with the franchise confirmed Rana’s unavailability, noting that it opens opportunities for other bowlers in the squad.

“Harshit Rana unfortunately will not be available but it gives the opportunity to other bowlers in the squad – Vaibhav, Umran, Kartik and Akash – to step up and grab the opportunity. No replacement has been decided yet,” the official was quoted.

The news arrives shortly after KKR bolstered their pace department by signing Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani for the 2026 season. The 6’8″ right-arm fast bowler, who impressed during the recent T20 World Cup—claiming 13 wickets to finish joint third on the list and helping Zimbabwe reach the Super Eights—will add depth to the unit.

In an official statement, KKR announced: “KKR have signed Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani to join the squad for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 season.” They highlighted his T20 credentials, including over 90 wickets in more than 80 internationals at an average of around 21, with best figures of 3/8, along with his experience in global leagues.

Muzarabani’s arrival follows the earlier release of Bangladesh left-armer Mustafizur Rahman by the franchise last December. While no direct replacement for Rana has been finalized, KKR appear poised to rely on existing resources to compensate for the loss of their promising Indian pacer.

Rana’s absence represents a blow to KKR’s bowling strategy, particularly given his contributions in previous seasons, including a vital role in their 2024 IPL triumph where he took 19 wickets in 13 matches. The franchise will now focus on integrating Muzarabani and maximizing performances from their other seam options as they prepare for the campaign.
