Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya sat out Saturday’s IPL 2026 fixture against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium after falling ill. Suryakumar Yadav stepped in as captain. Surya confirmed the news at the toss. “He’s not well. Just getting into his shoes today,” he said.
It isn’t Suryakumar’s first time leading MI. He captained the side against KKR in 2023 and again in MI’s 2025 season opener when Hardik served a one-match suspension.
Mumbai made three changes for the away fixture. Deepak Chahar replaced Hardik in the XI, Corbin Bosch came in for Trent Boult, and Mitchell Santner replaced Allah Ghazanfar Santner had missed the season opener due to a delayed arrival. Both Boult and Ghazanfar were dropped for tactical reasons.

Mayank Markande, who bowled one over in MI’s IPL 2026 clash against KKR, was named among the impact player options alongside Robin Minz, Raj Bawa, Trent Boult, and Ashwani Kumar.
Delhi Capitals named an unchanged XI the same side that beat Lucknow Super Giants earlier in the week.
