Gill-Krishna Set The Trap, Miller Falls At The Last Hurdle In Dramatic Finish

New Delhi : In a thrilling encounter on Wednesday, Delhi Capitals batter David Miller squandered a golden opportunity to level the scores against Gujarat Titans on the fifth ball of the 20th over. The match ultimately slipped away on the final delivery, as Miller was brilliantly trapped by Shubman Gill and Prasidh Krishna, handing Delhi a heartbreaking defeat.

What went wrong for Miller?

Chasing a daunting target of 211, Delhi needed just two runs before the fifth ball of the final over, with the score at 209/7. Prasidh Krishna was entrusted with bowling the crucial over.

Despite having a clear chance to take a single and level the scores, Miller declined the run and sent Kuldeep Yadav back. His plan was to finish the match with a boundary or two runs off the final ball.

Had Miller taken that single, the match would have been tied, and Kuldeep might have had a chance to score the winning run on the last delivery.

A Super Over opportunity missed

The game went down to the final ball, keeping the possibility of a tie alive. Krishna delivered a clever slow bouncer, which Miller failed to connect cleanly.

Attempting a desperate run, Miller set off, but Kuldeep Yadav couldn’t make it back to the crease in time. Wicketkeeper Jos Buttler executed a sharp run-out, sealing the win for Gujarat Titans and denying Delhi a chance to force a Super Over.

What did Gill say after the match?

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill revealed the thought process behind the final delivery.

“I was contemplating whether to ask Krishna to bowl a yorker or a slow bouncer. After discussing with him, we decided that considering the pitch conditions, a slower ball would confuse Miller and make it difficult for him to hit a boundary. It worked exactly as planned, and we managed to defend the target,” Gill said.

He added that posting 210 runs had already put Delhi under significant pressure while chasing 211.

Rahul’s 92 goes in vain

Gujarat Titans’ innings was powered by three half-centuries from Shubman Gill (70), Washington Sundar (55), and Jos Buttler (52).
For Delhi Capitals, KL Rahul played a brilliant knock of 92 off 52 balls, including four sixes and eleven boundaries, but his effort ultimately went in vain. Miller’s quickfire 41 off 20 balls also proved insufficient.

Among the bowlers, Rashid Khan picked up three wickets, while Prasidh Krishna claimed two. Mohammed Siraj chipped in with one wicket.

A match that swung on fine margins ultimately highlighted Gujarat Titans’ composure under pressure, as Delhi Capitals were left to rue a costly decision in the final over.
