An unsavoury episode overshadowed the on-field action as Lucknow Super Giants hosted Punjab Kings in an IPL 2026 league match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Reports emerged of spectators allegedly misbehaving with cheerleaders during the contest, prompting immediate intervention by law enforcement authorities.
Visuals circulating on social media platforms showed police officials moving quickly to address the situation. A female police officer was seen engaging directly with the group of fans involved. The prompt response helped restore order at the venue amid the high-stakes encounter.
On the field, Punjab Kings strengthened their playoff prospects with a convincing seven-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants. Shreyas Iyer delivered a standout performance, smashing a brilliant century that guided his team to the target. Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant reflected on his team’s challenging campaign following the loss. He acknowledged the difficulties faced throughout the season and emphasised the need to learn from the experience while maintaining a positive outlook for the future.
“It’s a tough one, we have to bite the bullet, keep our head high, it’s been a lot of learning, a tough season for us for sure,” Pant stated. He noted that LSG believed their total was competitive but recognised the advantage enjoyed by teams batting second on a favourable pitch. “I think we scored enough. It’s harder in the second innings because the batting gets easier; that’s why everyone wants to field first,” he added.
Pant also highlighted several encouraging aspects from the campaign, praising the contributions of key players including Josh Inglis, Mitch Marsh, and Prince, who enjoyed strong seasons. He also mentioned the return of players like Mohsin from injury and commended Shami’s efforts.
The incident involving fans and cheerleaders has drawn attention to crowd behaviour at IPL venues, with authorities demonstrating zero tolerance for such misconduct.
