Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had been keen for several days to discuss the Indian cricket team’s disappointing performances on foreign soil. However, when the much-awaited day finally arrived, a surprising development came to light. The cricket board had asked head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Bengaluru-based Centre of Excellence (COE) head VVS Laxman to come to Mumbai on Thursday, September 3. However, according to some reports, Agarkar was absent from the meeting.
It is understood that Agarkar could not attend the important BCCI meeting because of some personal commitments. However, while reports said that the former India pace-bowling all-rounder missed the crucial meeting for personal reasons, another newspaper report claimed that Agarkar joined the meeting virtually with BCCI office-bearers and other senior officials.
Amol Karhadkar, a journalist with a well-known English daily in South India, posted on ‘X’ on Thursday evening: “Ajit Agarkar could not attend the BCCI review meeting due to personal commitments.”
India recently suffered its first-ever defeat in both a match and a series in Ireland. India lost the T20I series 0-2 on that occasion. This was followed by a 0-4 defeat in the T20I series in England and a 1-2 loss in the ODI series. India subsequently won various series in Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, but the team’s overall poor performances on foreign soil made the BCCI’s review meeting particularly significant.
