Birmingham: After winning the first two Tests against Pakistan to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, England are now firmly on course for victory in the third and final Test here as well. When play was called off early on Thursday due to rain, Pakistan were 52 for 2 in their second innings.
Pakistan’s team has been given a ‘new look’ following the exclusion of seven players, but the reshuffled side was bowled out for just 133 in its first innings. England responded with 453 to take a massive 320-run lead.

England’s imposing total of 453 included half-centuries from five batsmen: Emilio Gay (60), Harry Brook (75), Dan Lawrence (65), wicketkeeper Jamie Smith (69) and Ollie Robinson (50).
Led by Babar Azam, Pakistan are now struggling under the weight of the huge deficit. They were still 268 runs behind England in their second innings, leaving the hosts in a strong position to seal an innings victory under Joe Root’s captaincy.
