Indian Boxers Seal Podium Spots as Athletics and Weightlifting Add Silver on Day 7

India continued its strong showing at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Wednesday, securing multiple assured medals in boxing while collecting silver in athletics and weightlifting.

Gulveer Singh etched his name in the record books by claiming silver in the men’s 10,000 metres, becoming the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the event. In the weightlifting hall, Harjinder Kaur improved on her Birmingham 2022 bronze to take silver in the women’s 69kg category, extending India’s solid campaign in the discipline.

The boxing arena delivered further success. Jadumani Singh, Preeti Pawar and Priya Ghanghas all advanced to the semi-finals earlier, guaranteeing at least three podium finishes. Later in the day, Sakshi Choudhary produced a dominant performance to defeat Caitlin Fryers of Northern Ireland by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the women’s 51kg quarter-final, booking her place in the last four. Arundhati Choudhary, ranked world No. 2, overcame Morgan Henderson of New Zealand 3-1 in the women’s 70kg quarter-final to reach the semi-finals. Sachin Siwach completed the set of assured medals by sweeping past Treasure Moremi of Botswana 5-0 in the men’s 60kg quarter-final.

On the track, Animesh Kujur recorded a season-best 20.46 seconds to win his heat in the men’s 200 metres and remain in contention for the semi-finals. In the men’s shot put qualification, Tajinderpal Singh Toor secured automatic progression with a best throw of 20.14 metres, while Samardeep Singh Gill advanced with 19.95 metres. Vishal TK reached the men’s 400 metres semi-finals. In the pool, Srihari Nataraj narrowly missed a swimming final, while Chaitanya Kulkarni and Suyash Jadhav finished fourth and sixth respectively in their men’s 50 metres freestyle S7 heats. Sajan Prakash and Aneesh S Gowda ended their campaigns in the men’s 200 metres freestyle heats without progressing.

India entered Day 7 with 12 medals two gold, seven silver and three bronze and several more opportunities remained, including weightlifting, long jump, steeplechase and further boxing action.
