Mumbai: The memorable 23rd Commonwealth Games came to an end on Sunday in Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city situated on the banks of the River Clyde, after 11 days of thrilling action and unforgettable moments. With the conclusion of the 2026 Games, attention now shifts to the 24th Commonwealth Games, which will be hosted by India’s prestigious city of Ahmedabad in 2030.
Sabarmati Ready to Welcome the Commonwealth
Ahmedabad, Gujarat’s largest city, located on the banks of the world-famous Sabarmati River and renowned as a major commercial and industrial hub, has already begun preparations to stage what promises to be the most exciting and memorable Commonwealth Games ever held. During the spectacular Closing Ceremony in Glasgow on Sunday, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi proudly accepted the ceremonial Commonwealth baton for the 2030 Games to be hosted in Ahmedabad. He was joined by Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President P. T. Usha and India’s star athlete Neeraj Chopra during the baton handover ceremony.
Harsh Sanghvi Promises World-Class Infrastructure
Addressing the glittering Closing Ceremony in Glasgow on Sunday night, Gujarat Deputy CM Harsh Rameshbhai Sanghvi said, “Ahmedabad will welcome thousands of athletes from all 74 Commonwealth nations in 2030 and provide them with world-class infrastructure and every modern facility required for a successful Games. Preparations have already begun.”
Ahmedabad Aims to Deliver an Unforgettable Sporting Festival
After Australia’s Victoria State withdrew from hosting responsibilities, Glasgow was awarded the Games at the last minute, resulting in only 10 sports being included in the programme. Ahmedabad, however, is expected to host competitions in many more sports, making the 2030 Commonwealth Games one of the most memorable sporting events in history. The city is also considered a strong contender to host the 2036 Olympic Games.
India Finishes Fourth in the Medal Table
Indian athletes produced a sensational finish in Glasgow, winning a total of 39 medals, including 13 gold medals. India climbed from 10th place to finish fourth in the final medal standings. Australia topped the table with 170 medals, followed by England with 110 and Canada with 62. There is strong optimism that India can finish among the top three when Ahmedabad hosts the Games in 2030.

Ahmedabad Already Looking Forward to 2030
As all 74 Commonwealth nations bid an emotional farewell to Glasgow, Ahmedabad is eagerly preparing to welcome thousands of athletes from those same 74 countries with warmth, enthusiasm and Indian hospitality in 2030.
