Canada Cricket Hit by a Shock: Head Coach Monty Desai Resigns Just Three Months into His Second Stint

Toronto: Canada’s men’s cricket team has been under scrutiny amid fixing allegations for some time, and the team has now attracted further attention after head coach Monty Desai stepped down from his position. He announced his decision through social media.

Monty Desai was reappointed as Canada’s head coach for the second time as recently as May this year, but his second stint lasted only three months. His decision to leave the team comes at a time when Canada are facing allegations of match-fixing.

In his resignation announcement, Monty Desai wrote, “My time in this role was short but meaningful. Every situation teaches you something new. My experience with this team has strengthened my confidence. I am grateful to the players as well as the support staff for this short journey.”

After the 2026 T20 World Cup, the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit launched an investigation into alleged corruption. Meanwhile, the ICC has suspended funding for the Canada Cricket Board. In addition, Canada’s recognition as an ICC Associate Member nation has also been revoked, with the ICC imposing certain conditions for its reinstatement.

Monty Desai has previously worked as the batting coach of the West Indies. In 2019, he was also the batting coach of the UAE team. He has also worked with Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Lions.
