Due to an ongoing investigation into an incident at a Derby nightclub, Brydon Carse has been left off of England’s squad for the second Test match against Pakistan. The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) launched an investigation after the pacer was spotted in handcuffs outside a nightclub in Derby on Saturday night.
Sonny Baker, whose only Test appearance to date came in the June series against New Zealand, has taken Carse’s position in the England squad.
The Cricket Regulator will be looking into the event, but the ECB did not provide any more information. While their nightclub incident was being investigated earlier in the summer, pacer Gus Atkinson and then captain Ben Stokes were also benched.
“Brydon Carse will no longer be available for selection for the Second Men’s Rothesay Test Match while this investigation is ongoing and the full facts are obtained,” the statement issued by the ECB. Last week, Durham defeated Derbyshire by 338 runs in the County Championship, with the 31-year-old Carse playing. He was allowed to play county cricket alongside Shoaib Bashir, Sam Cook, Matthew Fisher, and Ollie Pope after being left out of the starting lineup for the first Test.
The first Test was won by England by 103 runs and an innings. On Thursday, August 27, the second Test will start at Lord’s.
