Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s Fitness Secret Revealed: Set to Begin a New Innings on October 22

Mumbai: Before becoming the first bowler in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to take 200 wickets in April 2026, Bhuvneshwar Kumar had already achieved several milestones for India and helped the national team win numerous matches and series. However, he had not played for India since 2022. Now, following Ajit Agarkar’s departure as chief selector and Pragyan Ojha taking charge, Bhuvneshwar has finally earned a comeback to the Indian team. His diet plan has consequently gone viral.

Bhuvneshwar has been included in India’s squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand, particularly in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. The T20 series against the Kiwis will begin on October 22.

Six Years of Strict Dietary Discipline

Several fast bowlers, including Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy, have suffered injuries at different stages of their careers. However, there has been very little negative news regarding injuries or fitness concerns surrounding 36-year-old swing specialist Bhuvneshwar.

Notably, Bhuvneshwar has been following a specific diet plan as part of his fitness regime for the past six years. According to a report in a leading English daily, his physiotherapist, Ramneesh Vohra, revealed that Bhuvneshwar’s weight had dropped from 80 kg to 75 kg.

Bhuvneshwar has stayed away from sugar, gluten and lactose for the past six years as part of his strict diet plan. He particularly avoids sweets. Gluten is commonly found in wheat, refined flour and broken wheat, and is used in foods such as bread, pizza and puff pastries. His physiotherapist said Bhuvneshwar had shown tremendous discipline by avoiding these foods. He has also paid special attention to maintaining his exercise routine.

Body Fat Reduced to 16 Per Cent

Fast bowlers are generally known for their aggressive temperament, which is often reflected in their facial expressions and body language on the field. Bhuvneshwar, however, is known for his calm demeanour, much like former Indian fast bowler Javagal Srinath.

Bhuvneshwar’s body fat percentage has dropped from 22–25 per cent to 16 per cent, demonstrating his commitment to sticking to his fitness plan. This disciplined approach has helped him maintain his fitness despite the physical demands of fast bowling.

Physiotherapist’s Support Behind His Comeback

Ramneesh Vohra first became Bhuvneshwar’s physiotherapist in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even when Bhuvneshwar remained out of the Indian team for four years, Vohra continued working with him on his fitness. The efforts proved particularly beneficial during the IPL.

Between 2022 and 2026, Bhuvneshwar claimed a total of 84 wickets across five IPL seasons.
