Mumbai : Indian cricket all-rounder Axar Patel has established himself as a key player for the national team. However, many fans are often puzzled by the unusual spelling of his first name. Interestingly, the cricketer’s real name was originally “Akshar,” but a minor administrative error during his school days led to the name “Axar” becoming official.
According to reports, Patel once shared the story behind the change. The incident dates back to the time when he was preparing for the Under-19 World Cup and needed to apply for a passport. Since he did not have one at the time, he was required to submit several documents, including a school leaving certificate.
To obtain the certificate, Patel approached his school administration. However, when the document was issued, the school principal mistakenly wrote his name as “Axar” instead of the correct spelling “Akshar.” Because the certificate carried this spelling, the same name was subsequently used in other official documents such as his passport and driving licence.
Patel later noticed the difference and consulted his father about correcting the mistake. But by then, the paperwork had already been completed using the new spelling. His father advised that changing the documents again could be complicated. As a result, the cricketer decided to continue using “Axar Patel” in official records and professional cricket.
Over time, the revised spelling became widely recognized as he progressed in domestic cricket and eventually represented India on the international stage. Today, the name “Axar Patel” is firmly associated with his achievements as an all-rounder.
What began as a simple clerical error eventually turned into a permanent identity for the cricketer, proving that even small incidents can leave a lasting mark on a sporting career, as highlighted in the report.
