Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel was penalised Rs 12 lakh following his team’s victory against Punjab Kings in an IPL 2026 encounter at Dharamsala, after the side was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate.
The IPL confirmed the sanction in an official statement, noting that it was the team’s first offence of the season. “As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Axar Patel was fined INR 12 lakhs,” the league said.
The financial penalty, however, could not dampen the spirits of a memorable night for Delhi Capitals. The side kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a thrilling three-wicket win while chasing a formidable target. Punjab Kings had earlier posted a challenging total of 210 for 5, powered by Priyansh Arya’s quick 56, an unbeaten 59 from captain Shreyas Iyer, and a useful 38 from Cooper Connolly.
Delhi Capitals’ chase got off to a shaky start as they slumped to 74 for 4, appearing in deep trouble. Axar Patel then stepped up with a captain’s knock of 56 runs, while South African veteran David Miller provided crucial momentum with a vital 51. The pair helped stabilise the innings and brought the team back into contention.
