Indian Badminton Player Wins Historic Title In Second Consecutive Week Under Korean Coach’s Guidance

After Tanvi Sharma, Ashmita Chaliha Triumphs: Makes Stunning Comeback to Defeat Higher-Ranked Chinese Opponent

Asan (South Korea): India’s 26-year-old badminton player Ashmita Chaliha defeated higher-ranked Chinese opponent Han Qian Shi (XI) in the final of the Korea Masters Super 300 badminton tournament here on Sunday to win a BWF World Tour title for the first time in her career. Last Sunday, India’s Tanvi Sharma had won the Taipei Open title. With Chaliha’s triumph, a second Indian player has won a historic title in successive weeks under the guidance of former South Korean badminton player and coach Park Tae-Sang.

On Sunday, August 2, 17-year-old Tanvi Sharma became the youngest player to win the Taipei Open title. A week later, Ashmita Chaliha produced a superb comeback against Han Shi after losing the opening game 14-21. She bounced back strongly to win the next two games 21-14, 21-14 and clinch the title. The match lasted 53 minutes.

Ashmita Chaliha hails from Assam. Two years ago, she suffered severe knee pain and subsequently had to undergo surgery, which disrupted her career. Currently ranked 50th in women’s badminton, Chaliha achieved a major feat by defeating world No. 35 Han Shi.

Before Sunday’s final, Ashmita and coach Park Tae-Sang had watched videos of Han Shi’s matches and identified weaknesses in her game. They then worked out their strategy accordingly.
